Mac’s Shack and Mac on the Pier Restaurant in Wellfleet
Mac’s Shack Restaurant of Wellfleet looks like your typical Cape Cod clam shack, but the food is a step above .Mac’s Shack embodies the epitome of a nicer, sit-down seafood restaurant They serve sushi, pan roasted halibut with lobster mashed potatoes, local mussels, fresh oysters and more.
Nighty specials include the catch of the day. Up front, Ichi-San and protege Stephen-San turn prime cuts of fish into sushi that draws a devoted crowd. But a juicy strip steak with a sparkling crunch of Wellfleet sea salt explains why meat lovers adore them as well. They also have an outstanding raw bar.
Are you heading to Wellfleet soon?
We’ve put together a list of some of the things to do, places to visit, and where to eat!
That copper-topped beauty out front is the bar. Cocktails with homemade infusions, a good wine list, and cold beer on tap—all within reach of our Wellfleet oysters and clams. We shuck to order.
The whitewashed dining room fills a 19th century house that was once a nautical shop. The lobsterman on the roof is an homage to the Lobster Hutt, circa 1971.
Now if you want a clamshack, Mac has created that as well Right on Wellfleet Harbor you can get fresh seafood as well while you eat at picnic tables! You can get fried seafood, lobster and even sushi.
If you want to cook your fish at home, Mac’s has 3 marketplaces including Wellfleet, Eastham and Truro!
Here is are some reviews
Best sushi ,fun bar ,nice spot on the water ,always crowded because it’s so good.
Our favorite spot on Cape Cod. Especially love eating the best oysters at the outside bar. Great vibe
Stopped in at 5 o’clock for pre-dinner happy hour totally enjoyed a dozen oysters the spicy tuna roll and a couple of cocktails recommend the El Mescalito. Recommend stopping in at five if you just want to pre-dinner drink and appetizer otherwise parking may be difficult to attain. Our waitress was great and great experience tonight.
Excellent raw bar, cocktails, halibut with the Lobster mashed potatoes and excellent service. It’s always lively with and energetic atmosphere and lovely view.
After a day cycling the Rail trail from Wellfleet to Dennis, a local recommended we stop here for the Oysters. It didn’t disappoint. The service was terrific. After a dozen Wellfleet, we each had the butter poached lobster. Delicious.
A Wellfleet staple that must be visited. I’ve been going since the 1970s.
Be prepared to have some of the best seafood of your life. You might wait in line for a little while before ordering or for a table, but it’s so worth
Wow!!! Fantastic food for my nephew’s wedding rehearsal and post-wedding brunch. The quality of the food was superb. And they were so creative in accommodating those of us with gluten allergies.
we stopped here for lunch during a visit to Wellfleet and were treated to an extraordinary meal. We had the swordfish curry special and the lobster gnocchi and found both entrees to be extremely delectable and satisfying. The service was excellent as well. Our table was outside in a large tent, which was quite comfortable. Overall this was a great find!
Went to Mac’s on multiple occasions during our Cape Cod trip in August. The lot gets filled early but you can park at the pier and walk down ( or visit Mac’s at the pier). For a group of four it was a forty minute wait at around 6pm and 7 pm on the nights I Visited. We instead chose to sit at the high tops which are first come first serve.
The food is phenomenal, sushi, fried entrees, chowder and raw bar. We also did takeout a couple nights and this was a great place to get food from. No issues and the staff was overwhelmed but great. Kudos to them.
Mac’s never disappoints, it’s always delicious and a great experience. We went for lunch, ate sushi and a variety of appetizers, tapas style, and they were all really excellent. I think it’s perhaps the best food in Wellfleet. The staff are fun and friendly too.
We were visiting Marconi Station with 2 kids and stopped by here for lunch. The outdoor space was great and very convenient. Food, drinks and service were great! We each had a bowl of Clam Chowder. My husband loved it, I like it a bit thicker. Overall excellent chowder! We also split a swordfish sandwich and it was just superb!
Kids had fish and chips and they were very happy with it. We definitely be back.
What I love about Mac’s Shack. I doubt you’ll find fresher fish anywhere on the cape. The menu runs the gamut from squeaky-clean, ice cold Wellfleet oysters, Hawaiian pokes, sashimi, nigiri sushi, endless maki roll choices (get the hand grenades, they are ‘the bomb’) Broiled and fried cape cod standards and more. Skip the Bermuda fish chowder (it sounds good but it’s bland) get the clam chowder, it’s a good one.
I enjoyed both the lunches I had here during my long weekend trip in Wellfleet. Had a salad one time and a quesadilla the other time. Someone else in my group loved the poke. The restaurant is fast-casual, so you place your order at the counter and then sit down at a table to wait for your food to be ready. The view across the harbor is great, and there’s a slightly protected area if the wind is too strong.
What an amazing meal! It was our family’s first night of vacation in Wellfleet, and this restaurant did not disappoint! The food was amazing and the service friendly! The Ritz cracker crust and blue fish was delectable!, as were all the dishes served! Would definitely recommend this for anyone vacationing in the area
We were looking for some good seafood and found a menu that is much more inspired than what I would have expected at a “shack.” The poke bowl was more like the fish you’d find in sushi/sashimi and was varied and fresh. It’s nice to see more than the standard seafood fare at the standard seafood restaurants.
The place with the lobsterman on the roof.
