First Night Chatham New Year Eve 2021-22

Sharing is caring!

First Night Chatham is a family-friendly, alcohol-free celebration of the Arts, with entertainment and activities for children and adults all day from noon until the 530pm fireworks celebrated on New Years eve  Friday  December 31st

This year’s celebration will be all outdoors. Most of our traditional outdoor activities return, plus some outdoor extras to make this year’s First Night Chatham feel like a Main Street festival. Kick off First Night Chatham with the Town Photo, and this year’s culmination will feature the return of the Early Fireworks at Veterans Field.

First Night Chatham starts at noon with the Town Photo, and ends with the finale of the Early Fireworks.
Most other activities will take place between 12:30 and 5 PM (the start of the Noise Parade).

Brewster Bayside Skippers
There are two exhibitions of jump rope skills this year, outdoors in the Town Hall parking lot, at 12:30 and 1:30. Start your afternoon on Main St. watching this exciting group of young jumpers.

Since 1993, the Brewster Bayside Skippers have been promoting the sport of jump rope while teaching the value of self-motivation, physical fitness and teamwork. Started by Coach Paul Mullin and now coached by John Hammond, the team has grown from a handful of elementary students into a team of national and international champions. They have jumped in parades all over the Cape, and have also had 3 members jump in a group in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2013 and 2015.

Bubble Wrap Stomp

A favorite activity of many parents, too! Watch the kids show joy as they break the bubbles and make lots of noise!

This year it’s outdoors, on the hard surface of St. Christopher’s Church courtyard. Will jumping up and down on the bubble wrap keep you warm? Come and find out!

Yo-Yo’s, Music and Dance with Ooch
Brett “Ooch” Outchcunis combines three of his favorite activities — yo-yo tricks, cool music and sweet dance moves – for a fun, interactive and high energy afternoon for families of all ages.

The show is part yo-yo tricks and part dance party. Ooch performs some of his favorite yo-yo tricks that will dazzle the audience. In Ooch’s world “dance” can mean many things – like follow-along dance, popular line dances such as the Cupid Shuffle, Cotton Eyed Joe, or Cha Cha Slide, body percussion, Freeze Dance and even Hula Hoops to music . . . all to popular songs requested by the audience.

Pirates of the Cape will be on Main St. during the afternoon! They love to have their pictures taken, with you in the picture too if you dare get that close. Be sure to get the names of any pirates you encounter – some of them are called Capt’n Kindle Burns, No-Mercy Marcy, B. Side Burns, and Dr. Jim Bones. There are more, so be on the watch for them.

The Placeholders
The Placeholders will entertain at the Gazebo in Kate Gould Park. Enjoy the music as you play mini-golf or grab food in the parking lot, or bring a chair and stay a while.

The Placeholders are a fresh, young, talented four-piece rock band from Harwich & Chatham. They play impressive rock covers from the 60’s through today, with quality harmonies and song arrangements, many featuring the Hammond organ. They’re all students of either music or production. You will be captivated and pleasantly surprised not only with their musicianship but also with the sound and production. The band has played at First Night Chatham, and on the Main Street programs of both Harwich and Chatham.
