Day 195 1st Annual Spring on Main 2013 in Hyannis MA
The Hyannis Main Street Business Improvement District will be hosting the the 1st Spring on Main Festival on the weekend of Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28. There will be plenty to do for the whole family in Hyannis MA.
Things to Do is the theme and Hyannis Main Street will welcome artists of all ages to showcase their work in the form of sidewalk chalk art. All weekend, visitors can walk along Main Street and watch and interact with chalk artists as they draw and create beautiful works of art right on the Main Street sidewalks. In addition, artists’ works will be featured inside the JFK Museum with visual arts from B.I.S. (Barnstable Intermediate School) displayed in front of the museum.Prizes will be drawn for the best art rendition in three age groups.
Saturday will see the 8th Annual Shop Local Day with specials and promotions from Main Street shops and restaurants. Shop Local specials and promotions will be available at www.hyannismainstreet.com. Visitors can bring a receipt from a Main Street merchant dated April 27, 2013 to the JFK Museum and enter to win a prize.
Also on Saturday, April 27, at 1pm, B.I.S. (Barnstable Intermediate School) Rockapella will sing in front of the JFK Museum.On Sunday, April 28, at 2pm, we are honored to welcome the 40 piece traveling high school ensemble Meander Big Band from Holland to Hyannis Main Street as they perform at the Village Green.
The Spring on Main Festival will feature a children’s activity corner at Kandy Korner, at 474 Main Street. Children will be able to create their own sidewalk chalk art here while they enjoy free cotton candy. Across the street, at Palio Pizzeria, a balloon artist will be doing balloon twisting.
On Saturday, April 27, from 9am- noon, in recognition of World Healing Day, there will be a Kung Fu demonstration on the Hyannis Village Green, followed by a free yoga class and demonstration. Later that afternoon, from 4-6pm, a Spring Fashion Show at Prova Brazil Steakhouse will feature the latest spring fashions and jewelry from several Main Street businesses. The fashion show will feature jazz by the Alan Clinger Trio and money raised from the event will benefit Celebrations, the safe after-prom event for Barnstable High School. On Sunday, April 28, there will be a 5K Road Race benefiting Shea’s Basketball Camp on the Hyannis Village Green.
A trolley shuttle will run back and forth between Main Street and the Hyannis Youth and Community Center where the Town of Barnstable will be presenting the inaugural Cape Cod Nature Expo on Saturday, April 27 from noon to 4pm.
The Hyannis Main Street Business Improvement District will welcome in springtime on Cape Cod with an explosion of colors with our flowers along Main Street and beautiful lamp post banners along the street.The Spring on Main Festival will also see the return of outdoor dining on Main Street as we welcome in the warmer weather.
