Red Cottage Restaurant in Dennis, MA
The Red Cottage is a breakfast and lunch restaurant in South Dennis. Located in the heart of the South Dennis Historic District, the Red Cottage sits on the site of the 1828 Capt. Wilbur Harden Homestead, later the Obed Nickerson, Jr. Homestead, which was “flaked” and moved to Pocasset, Mass. in 1926. Today’s Red Cottage actually started out as a 2 1/2-room “cottage,” built in 1936 by Walter J. Weeman. Later the house was expanded, the seasonal restaurant opened in the garage, and -for a time- there was a boat-building shop where the restaurant is today! The waitresses will not allow any coffee cup to get half full with the great service that they provide.
The Red Cottage restaurant has 11 signatures dishes that they recommend to “First Timers” They include , Cinnamon Bun French toast and caramelized onion omelet They have some of the best homes fries made from red potatos. If your on a diet or just watching your eating , they have a section with healthier options and calorie counts listed. I don’t think cinnamon bun french toast is on that menu but they do have a light cinnamon french toast plus there is no extra charge for egg whites like some breakfast places.
The lunch menu is pretty typical it has a selection of angus burgers and wraps. They do have delicious chicken breast sandwiches which include the Saratoga chicken which has a goat cheese and balsamic reduction glaze.
Get there early and be prepared to wait during breakfast time , but it is worth it for the quality and wide variety of breakfast options. Remember to bring cash as they don’t take credit or debit cards at this time.

By far the best breakfast/lunch diner in the nation. We were introduced by a friend from Dennis who goes there regularly, especially when we visit from the west coast. The food here is unmatched in quality, hands down.
The food and service are always excellent. The line can be long in the summer but worth the wait.
It is such a cute, quaint place to have breakfast or lunch! It’s a family favorite! The food is delicious and the atmosphere is so cozy. The old fashioned pictures they have on the wall are so nice as they depict the Cape from an earlier time. I was there this past week and had the Cheeseburger with side house salad and the dressing was delicious! The service is great too, they always have a smile and you can see how hard they all work to make it a great little restaurant!
We can’t wait to go back! Everything was susuperb! The food and the service was delightful! Very nostalgic, you feel like you went back in time.
There were so many choices, I will have to return and return and return back there. Food was delicious. Great little spot. Bring cash – No ccards here
