Cape Cod Museum of Natural History in Brewster MA

The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History is located in  Brewster  on Cape Cod Their mission is to encourage and advance understanding of our natural environment through discovery and learning.  This museum is great place to spend a day during your Cape Cod summer vacation.  It is also the perfect rainy day adventure!

Cape Cod Museum of Natural History

There are two floors of exhibits about the flora and fauna of Cape Cod, including exhibits on whales, birds, and coastal change, and several  small aquarium holding different species of fish, frogs, turtles and snakes.  The  displays are interactive and geared to kids.

The Museum also has a library and gift  Shop. Three nature trails meander through woodland, salt marsh or on the shore of Cape Cod Bay and guided field walks are offered year round, daily in summer. Lectures and workshops on natural history topics are offered year round, and there are special programs for children, as well as school vacation programs and KidSummer, to engage them in nature.  They do have special school programs as well as scout programs that available year round.   During July and August they have weekly Family nature programs.

During the summer months June 1st through September 30th the museum is open every day from 9:30-4pm.  It is opened limited hours for through the rest of the year.

Reptiles Rock!

A fun and informative hands-on presentation by a Rainforest Reptile herpetologist with 4 larger animals including a large tortoise, a large lizard, a 9 to 10 ft. boa or python, and, of course, the American alligator. PLUS, a mini zoo with bugs, frogs, snakes, and lizards!

Get messy with science! Explosions of experiments, hands-on activities, and demonstrations that encourage kids to ask questions that pique their interest in science!

Nature Printing with artist Leslie Kramer

This is a Drop-In Program

Make colorful nature prints using dried leaves, flowers, and ferns with water-based paints to create a design on a gelli plate. Place paper on top and rub to make your print! All non-toxic materials are provided.

Age appropriate 6 and up.

Soap Bubble Science

The Inflatable Humpback Whale

Learn all about the magnificent 44-foot Humpback Whale, their behavior, and habits from the inside out! Our CCMNH naturalist, Mike Harnett, will present a 20-minute program and participants will have an opportunity to see this amazing whale from the inside out! An extraordinary journey!

Due to the educational level and content, this exhibit is restricted to ages 5 and up.

Walk Through Gray Whale

Walk through the amazing Gray Whale and find out why it is extinct in the in the Atlantic and alive and well in the Pacific with CCMNH Volunteers, Gerry and Karen Beetham. An extraordinary journey!
