the Cape Cod Hydrangea Festival returns, at the Hertigage Garden & Museum    celebrating the iconic plant that makes Cape Cod so stunning in July. All Hydrangea Festival events are free with Museum admission. No advance registration required.

Hydrangea Festival Daily Walking Tours
Friday, July 8-Sunday, July 17: 11-11:30 am and 2-2:30 pm
Join tour guides for 30-minute walking tours, exploring historic species and cultivars and reblooming modern varieties.

Hydrangea Pruning Discussion
Sunday, July 10: 1-1:45 pm
Wednesday, July 13: 10-10:45 am
Saturday, July 16: Noon-12:45 pm
Join the Heritage Horticulture staff to learn how to selectively prune your plants to improve vigor, increase bloom density, control height, and enhance ornamental value. Discuss the tools, techniques, and timing needed for effective pruning, and watch a demonstration of pinch pruning.

Heavenly Hydrangeas Book Signing with author Joan Harrison
Saturday July 9: 1-2 pm
Learn tips and tricks for growing beautiful hydrangeas from author Joan Harrison during this one-hour walking tour, with a book sale and signing featuring Joan and her popular book, Heavenly Hydrangeas. Joan is the founding president of the Cape Cod Hydrangea Society.

Hydrangea Pests and Disease Control Walking Tour

Walk the gardens with Mal Condon, Heritage’s Hydrangea Curator, to learn about the pests and disease issues that most commonly affect hydrangeas. Learn how Heritage uses a more sustainable approach to control pest problems.

Hydrangea plantings at Heritage are expanding! Over the next five years, Heritage will work with partners to create the most complete hydrangea collection in the U.S. This trial-and-demonstration garden for newly developed hydrangeas is being designed to feature diverse plants showcasing the research, breeding, and introduction programs currently underway in the industry. Come learn more about this exciting initiative!

Hydrangea Colors

Everyone wants to know how to achieve the blushing pinks and deep blues of these beautiful blooms! Learn how soil types, fertilizer choices, and pH control additives can bring out the brightest hues in your plants. Watch a demonstration of techniques, and leave knowing how to alter your home soil’s chemistry for a more vibrant hydrangea blooms in your garden.

Take a walking tour through the Heritage Hydrangea Display Garden and learn how specific hydrangeas provide benefits for various situations and landscapes. You will also gain knowledge about hydrangeas for containers; hydrangeas of more modest size for foundation plantings; hydrangeas for cold climates, for cutting, for drying, and for sunny gardens or more shady locations. Bring your questions to this interactive discussion.
