Scrooge Musical at Cotuit Center for the Arts
For the Holidays, Cotuit Center for the Arts presents Scrooge from November 22nd to December 18th . This charming stage adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol by renowned writer- composer-lyricist Leslie Bricusse. It is closely-adapted from the 1970 musical film Scrooge starring Albert Finney, which earned Bricusse an Oscar® nomination for his score. A holiday hit for the whole family.
Cranky old miser Ebenezer Scrooge hates Christmas; loathes people and defends the decrease of the surplus poor population; runs his bank exploiting his employee Bob Cratchit and clients; and gives bitter treatment to his own nephew and acquaintances. However, on Christmas Eve, he is visited by the doomed ghost of his former partner Jacob Marley, who tells him that three more spirits will visit him that night. The first one, the spirit of Christmas Past, recalls his miserable youth when he lost his only love due to his greed. The second spirit, Christmas Present shows him the poor situation of Bob’s family and how joyful life can be. The final spirit, of Christmas Future shows the miser his miserable fate if he fails to change his miserly ways. In the end, Scrooge decides that life is too short to be miserable, changing his behavior toward Christmas, Bob, his nephew and people in general.
