Christmas December School Vacation things to do on Cape Cod

December School vacation week is fast approaching. If you’re looking for something to occupy the kids after the craziness of Christmas holiday settles down, check out these Cape cod events and activities. We will update as we hear about new events! Join us on our Facebook page as well for updates.

Cape cod Museum of Natural History  Brewster MA

From Monday, December 26 through Friday, December 30 the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History will present its school vacation program Animal Antics. Special events daily from 1-2 pm.

Come join the animal fun! Meet live animals! Clap, sing, dance, listen, and create. The project room will be open daily from noon-2 pm. Create your own animal to take home.

Monday, December 26
Talk to the Turtles
Learn about life and behavior of turtles and terrapins. Visit with our turtle residents. Make your own turtle to take home.

Tuesday, December 27
One Earth So Green & Round
Sing, dance, clap with Lydia and Kathy. These fun-filled, energetic ladies have songs of nature and animal antics to raise your spirits and inspire imaginations.

Wednesday, December 28
Creature Feature
Meet some of the residents of our Aquarium. Learn about their lives, ask questions.
See them up close.

Thursday, December 29
Come paint and draw animals with local artists Leslie Kramer and Liz Perry.
Take your amazing art home!

Friday, December 30
Chatham Chorale Chamber Singers
The Chatham Chorale Chamber Singers is a smaller chorus comprised of about 30 singers selected from the larger Chatham Chorale. The Chamber Singers will perform a selection of songs with themes connected to the natural world, including “animal antics.”

School Vaction
There will be winter wonderland crafts such as soap snowballs,clay snowmen stations and more.
Also tinkering tots will have fun with our annual Lego and K’NEX engineering room.

Cape Cod Museum of Art’s 30th Anniversary Arts for All Sponsored by Bank of America

Bank of America is sponsoring the Cape Cod Museum of Art’s 30th Anniversary Arts for All allowing the museum and its galleries to be open to the public free of charge between Christmas and New Year’s, December 27 – 31. Museum hours during this week are Tuesday and Wednesday, December 27 & 28, 10 am – 5 pm; Thursday, December 29 10 am – 8 pm; Friday, December 30, 10 am – 5 pm; and Saturday, December 31, 10 am – 1:30 pm.

Block Party: Legos in the Library!
Tuesday, December 27 from 2pm to 4pm.
Drop-in anytime during this Lego Block Party and let the creativity flow. Legos will be provided to use here, please leave your own Legos at home. For ages 6-10.

A BRIAR PATCH CHRISTMAS STORY TIME AND HIKE – Enjoy a special story followed by a visit with our animals. Then enjoy a naturalist-led hike along the Briar Patch Trail.

BIRDS OF THE BRIAR PATCH – Learn some winter bird calls and identification tricks. Then pull on the boots, gloves and hat and strap on the “bird-noculars” as you trek along the Briar Patch Trail with a naturalist-guide in search of winter birds. Binoculars available for loan with advance notice.
Members: $10 Family Non-Member: $15 Family

Wednesday December 28 10:30am-11:00am FAMILY
LIVE ANIMAL STORY TIME – Enjoy a naturalist-storyteller-led exploration of a Burgess Wintertime story and meet animals and artifacts related to the story.
Members: FREE       Non-Members: $2 (drop in program) 

Wednesday December 28      6:00pm-8:00pm      ADULTS/ FAMILIES
CAPE COD OWLS NIGHT PROGRAM AND WALK – Explore local owls through artifacts and sound recordings. Then hike out into the Briar Patch listening for Screech and Great Horned Owls. Return to the Nature Center for a cup of hot chocolate before heading home.
Members: $5 Adult,     $10 Family
Non-Members: $7 Adult,     $15 Family


Thursday December 29     9:00am-Noon       AGES 6-12
WINTER EXPLORER TREATS & TRACKS – Be a winter explorer looking for animal signs and tracks. Work together to create some yummy fruit leather to enjoy. Design your own “Winter Count Skin” and Hubbub Game following patterns from Native Peoples. 
Members: $25     Non-Members: $30

Thursday, December 29       1pm-3pm      ADULTS/ FAMILIES (child ages 6 & up)
WINTER TREES & TEAS – Discover the exquisite bark of Tupelo and Hickory. Look for Christmas Fern still vibrant along the wooded path. Explore how evergreens survive the cold weather. Enjoy a sampling of local wild plant teas.
Members: $5 Adult,     $10 Family
Non-Members: $7 Adult,     $15 Family

Friday December 30       10:30am-11:00pm       FAMILY
CRITTER CAPERS – This is a drop-in program led by a naturalist, where you meet our resident animals up close and personal. Registration is not required.

Friday December 30      3:30pm-4:30pm      FAMILY
FAMILY CANDY MAKING CLASS – Work as a family to create 2 quick and easy recipes to take home and enjoy. Make old-fashioned Butterscotch Pennies and Creamy White Marshmallow Fudge. Children must be at least 6 years of age to participate in any kitchen classes. 
Member Family: $20      Non-Member Family: $25
